A Foraging & Mead-Making Evening in Glenasmole
Wed 23rd September
6.30pm - 9.30pm
Goughies Coffee, Glenasmole
Join Feebee for a September evening of foraging, wild berries, local honey and the ancient craft of mead making in the beautiful surroundings of the Dublin Mountains.
We’ll begin with a guided foraging walk, exploring the hedgerows and landscape around Glenasmole and discovering the berries, plants and wild foods of early autumn. Along the way, we’ll learn how to identify what’s growing, hear some of the folklore and traditional uses associated with these plants, and gather seasonal berries.
After our walk, we’ll return indoors to make our own wild berry mead using local Irish honey and a seasonal berry infusion.
Mead is one of the world’s oldest fermented drinks and, at its simplest, is a beautiful combination of honey, water, yeast and time. Together we’ll explore the basics of this ancient fermentation process before each person makes their own small batch to take home and allow to slowly ferment and mature over the coming months.
And because good mead requires patience, there will also be a tasting of matured wild berry mead during the evening, so you can discover what your own little bottle may eventually become.
You’ll leave with approximately 375 ml of your own wild berry mead in progress, along with the knowledge and instructions to care for it at home.
