An Autumn Evening of Foraging, Folklore & Sloe Gin in Glenasmole

There’s something magical about the hedgerows in September.
Summer is beginning to fade, the evenings are drawing in and hidden amongst the thorny branches of the blackthorn are beautiful blue-black sloes, ready for their autumn harvest.
Join Feebee for a special evening around Glenasmole Reservoir as we gather these seasonal jewels and learn the traditional art of making wild sloe gin.
We’ll meet at Goughies Coffee before setting off together on a guided foraging walk along the reservoir. We’ll slow down, explore what’s growing around us and learn how to identify blackthorn and some of the other wild plants and berries appearing in the hedgerows at this time of year.
Along the way, Feebee will share some of the folklore and traditional uses surrounding blackthorn and sloes, as well as how to gather from the wild carefully and responsibly.
And, of course, we’ll gather our own sloes as we go.
From Hedgerow to Bottle
After our walk, we’ll return to the warmth of Goughies Coffee with our harvest for a tasting of matured sloe gin and discover how time transforms these wonderfully tart little berries into something deep, ruby-red and delicious.
Then we’ll prepare our own.
Together we’ll sort our freshly gathered sloes, prepare them with sugar and fill our bottles ready to take home.
The following day, you’ll add your own gin, then tuck your infusion away somewhere dark and let time work its magic over the months ahead.

No previous foraging experience is needed and all workshop materials are provided.
Please note: Gin for your take-home infusion is not included. You’ll add your own gin at home the following day.
